Board Approves Name Of New Elementary School

During the December 9th Urbandale CSD School Board meeting, Superintendent Steve Bass brought a recommendation from the Naming Committee to the School Board for consideration. The Board approved Millard A. Olmsted Elementary as the name of the new elementary school (which was the name that received the highest number of responses in survey #2) and approved naming the commons/cafeteria and courtyard area for Isabell Jensen (knowing that Jensen Elementary will eventually lose its namesake when the building closes). The Board requested further discussion for the best way to honor and pay tribute to the two survey name finalists, Justin S. Martin and Peggy A. Whitson, in order to ensure the tribute selected is meaningful and thoughtful for young learners.

We’d like to thank members of the Naming Committee for their time, dedication, and passion for selecting a name and paying tribute to other names that our entire community can take great pride in. We also thank our Urbandale students, staff, families, and community members for participating in this Naming Process of our first new elementary school. #UrbandalePride
